This site was started due to a love of webcomics. Some of my favorites include:
One of my dreams was to be able to create comics that people would love; the only thing standing in my way was my lack of artistic ability.
I never took a class, never read a book, and never practiced drawing, yet I wanted to create things people would love. To top things off, I don`t have endless amounts of free time to work on hobbies. Which is why this site took me almost 2 years to finish. Most nights I worked for an hour or so and I did what I could to sneak in work. I used my lunch breaks dilligently, I would wake up before work extra early, and stay up late on weekends in an effort to finish this up. Along the way it really became my passion, and I`m proud of how far MindSpasm has come along.
My initial webcomics were crude to say the least. If you really want to see the old work, you can see it here. (Maybe now you can see why I devoted time to making a tool rather then just creating comics!) The other problem I had is that even though the webcomics are simple they took me an astounding amount of time to complete them. Usually taking around 2+ hours to finish everything and post it online was just to great a time commitment and I began to get burnt out, and eventually stop updating my old comic websites.
Before this project, I had never programmed any HTML, PHP, Flash Actionscript 3, MySQL, Javascript or JQuery, but now at the very least I have some good skills to add to my resume. I took the time to learn these technologies with hopes to provide ease of use to users who shared a similar goal that I had: Creating comics people will love without investing mass amounts of time.
Tools are provided to create fully customizable characters. Pupils move, eyelids falls, characters grin, wear armor, wield weapons, posess extravagent mustaches and much much more. Everything has been designed with usability in mind. Ease of use is the number one goal, followed closely by outrageous creativity.
